We have returned SpectreCodename for Phantom III unit No. 2 for examination.

This engine has run a total of 125 hours and 50 hours since the new lead bronze bearings were fitted to the big ends.

B. side bank has been running with the self adjusting tappets and A.{Mr Adams} side has standard tappets in order to compare the wear of the bottom tappet pads. The bottom tappets should therefore be kept separate.

When starting cold there are bad piston knocks at the rear end of B. bank, either No. 4, 5 or 6, which improves but does not go completely when warmed up. Will you please check and regrind the valves in their seats, as we suspect some leaking.

There are two porous places in the crankcase which we have marked, through which there are slight oil leaks.

The cylinder head gaskets also leak water.
