X8692 RECEIVED DEC 1927 BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} C. to WCR. C. to HE. C. to EFC. C. to JGE. HmB/EW9.12.27. Re 20HP. and 40/50HP. - Make and Break Mechanism. We note the suggestions in your BY6/GS.12.27, and we are in agreement with the idea which prompts the suggestions. When the Make and Break modification has been standardized, it will be necessary for us to get out the cost of modifying the present type parts in order that consideration can be given to the matter as it affects customers and the Company. The changeover indicated will either entail more expense on the part of customers, or more free of charge expense on the part of the Company. Both points would have to be watched very carefully, and, as we have now received definite instructions to make drastic cuts in free of charge work, the second point will no doubt have to receive special consideration. We understand that it will be several months before the new type parts will be available for production, and in the meantime, therefore, we shall be obliged to cater for normal requirements for the intervening period. We propose to cut down by 50% the orders placed for the present type part - that is, to 350 sets, which represents approximately 3 months' supply. Instructions have already been given to this effect. | ||
