EAC. CLUTCH. V8300 [V8300 is handwritten]

We send you herewith a new light type clutch plate for EAC. clutch - LeC. 2102.

It consists of a ferodo (or similar material) driven ring which is attached to the clutch centre by 2 duralumin discs which in turn are bolted to it. We have incorporated this light type clutch plate with the lightened flywheel scheme sent you some little time ago, but slight dimensional alterations to the inside of the flywheel to accommodate this disc are necessary, as with it we have abandoned the damping device, as we consider this will now be unnecessary with this type of plate.

You will note that with this scheme it is more or less impossible to use the 4 retaining plates which were originally provided to square up the clutch disc in dismantling it, and also prevent the weight of the disc and clutch centre from unduly cross winding the rear clutch ball bearing. As an off-set to the fact that we are unable to use these plates with this scheme we have the fact that the parts are lighter.

The retaining plates referred to we believe served an additional useful purpose in helping to withdraw the clutch centre when dismantling, therefore with this new scheme we should be very glad if HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} will send us a report particularly dealing with the dismantling, to see whether this new form of plate without the retainers offers any serious obstacle in taking down.

The aforegoing constitutes an entirely separate experiment from the lightened clutch with new damping scheme previously sent you.

AJS.
