Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}10 JH.14.2.40. Minutes of Conference Held at Derby on Monday Feb.12th.1940. Present :- Mr.Ward. Mr.Green. (Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}) Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies} Bentley V.{VIENNA} Body Production. For purposes of discussion Mr.Ward produced figures of production costs, sectionalise in his normal manner for the following :- (a) B.2. Standard Saloon, average costs over the last 200 bodies produced. (b) Final estimated and partly proved costs for the B.V. standard Saloon as produced by Park Ward with Motor Body Panels, on an order of 500 bodies at 10 per week. The discussion of the figures was agreed to be very instructive, in particular in shewing on what sections or components an expenditure on tools will effect the biggest saving in cost. It was agreed that Mr.Ward would set out his cost figures for both B.2. and B.V. in sections similar to those which were used for the Weight Analysis of the Standard B.V. Saloon, a copy of which analysis was produced for his information. The following information is required to complete the reply to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s. letter. (a) "What reduction in price could be brought about by accepting a material specification similar to that of Rover or Jaguar?" This question will be answered after discovering the material specifications, and when a B.V. body has been finished accordingly. It was arranged to do this at the last conference. (b) "Separately what additional reduction could be achieved by using up-to-date painting and drying equipment, power driven hand tools and modern arc or spot welding tackle?" | ||
