To Hm. {Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from BJ. BJ1/H28.5.25 (Cont'd. {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} ) -2- inform him that he must have ventilators fitted and always open, and must put up with the cold draught to his feet and legs. The customer declares that he has had closed cars of other makes in former days without ventilators, in which he has not had this inconvenience of being gassed or having unpleasant fumes in the car. We fear, therefore, the reply will be that he must sell his Rolls-Royce and obtain a car in which this unpleasantness does not occur. For this reason we should be glad if the matter could be very carefully considered before we give him this definite reply. It would be a very useful experience if the car could be driven, say 40 miles with the window shut and then 40 miles with the front nearside window open, with passengers (if possible some ladies) inside the car, in order to ascertain whether they are affected in the same way as the above persons. A similar drive might then be made with the side scuttle ventilators open, to ascertain whether that overcomes the trouble. If it is found that even with the scuttle ventilators open still more air and draught is required, we must then consider the necessity of Spinney ventilator. Before fitting this we must ascertain from the customer whether he wishes to keep the car at all under the circumstances. It should be noted that the customer never runs with the rear windows open as this causes too much draught for him. B.J. | ||
