P.6.KM. 20 HP. DYNAMO WITH POLE MODIFICATION.

This dynamo was handed to us by the Test Dept. as a machine which has had the pole modification, presumably because the dynamo was noisy in the first instance. The modification in this instance has resulted in too big an upset of the output curve, having made the cutting-in later i.e. about 910 r.p.m. as against about 700 r.p.m. for our representative standard and 640 r.p.m. for our specified curve of output requirements. This machine cuts in later than the previous machine P.2.KM, which it will be remembered we regarded as just passed. It must inevitably happen that any reduction of the iron efficiency of the magnetic circuit must modify the cutting-in point of the dynamo to a higher speed.

In addition to the above it appears to us that the machine is still noisy. Taking everything into consideration, we cannot pass this machine for production in its present form.

We return the dynamo to Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}
