c. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/JH. 17th. March, 1941. SECRET. Smith's Jacking Systems Ltd., Jackall Works, Edgware Road, LONDON.N.W.2. For the attention of D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} Sessions Esq. Dear Sirs, We have fitted up a pair of double lift hydraulic jacks on a truck for locking the rear axle to the frame. The jacks are those from the rear axle of a Wraith III and the chassis hand pump is driven by an eccentric which in turn is driven by a power take off from the side of the truck gearbox. When the truck engine is idling at 500 r.p.m. the power take off drive is revolved at 300 r.p.m. This means that the hand pump does 5 double strokes per second. The above lash up works very well but we would like to find a pump to replace the hand pump now used and recall your experience of a few years ago with engine driven pumps for car jacks. We wonder whether you have one of these pumps still available that we might have. The speeds of drive we have available are .6 crankshaft namely 300 r.p.m. or the crankshaft 500 r.p.m. we prefer the latter. At what speed did you drive your pump? If you have not got one of these pumps we would be very grateful to you if you would tell us any company who manufacture pumps which are likely to fullfill the requirements which we have outlined. Yours faithfully, H.I.F.Evernien, Reconnaissance Dept. for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD | ||
