To Mr. from Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead}
c. to By. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}
c. to EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer}

X.4342 V
X.4359 V Starter Motor and Dynamo for "Goshawk 11".

In accordance with yours Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Thr5/CB3.6.21, I sent to C.A.Vandervell & Co.Ltd. our order No.5533 for:-

1 Special CAV. 5" Dynamo
1 " " SC.Motor

I explained that the above are required for experimental purposes in connection with "Goshawk 11" Dynamo X.4359 and Starter Motor X.4342, adding that they must be mechanically in accordance with correspondence and drawings sent them under reference "Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ", andelectrically in accordance with correspondence and curves addressed to them under reference "EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} ".

I requested that, when acknowledging receipt of the order, they (C.A.V) would give us a detailed description of the dynamo and motor, together with prices, and should they have any doubts about any detail they should communicate with us regarding same forthwith.

We are now in receipt of C.A.V's acknowledgement of the order, which reads as follows:-

"We beg to thank you for your official order bearing
"the above number, and asking for a 5" diameter Dynamo
"anda 5" Starter.
"We are not, however absolutely clear as to your
"requirements, the Dynamo that we now have under test is
"in accordance with your specification No. X4359, but we
"do not appear to have received the Starter specification
"No. X4342 referred to."

You will note that C.A.V. refer to a 5" Starter, whereas our order to them referred to a "Special CAV. SC.Motor". I do not know whether this latter size of motor is what they call a 5" Starter or not. I was under the impression that we had limited the diameter of the motor to 4½".

I shall be glad if you will hand to me the information necessary to enable me to reply to the letter from C.A.V.

Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead}
