Dear P.N.,

I called in to see you the other day but found your table all covered up, and I presume you were away for some little time.

I received the enclosed letter a few days ago from Engineer Admiral Rattery, C.B., R.N. I do not know anything of the filter referred to, but it may possibly be of interest to Derby, and I have answered him to the effect that I am passing the letter on to you and have asked you to kindly get in touch with him with reference to this matter.

Would you be good enough to do this?

I imagine you are in close touch with the latest material for brake linings, but it might be of interest to you to know that extraordinary good results from the point of view of uniformity of operation and durability have been obtained recently with the Duron Brake material, made by Messrs. Brake Linings Limited. I understand that the Bentley cars in the recent Le Mans Race, were fitted with these linings and that after the 24 hours, wear was only nominal, whereas on previous occasions they had hardly got through with any brake linings left at all.

The co-efficient of friction of these linings from the information we have appears to be rather higher than that of the normal Ferodo lining which may tend to make the brake somewhat harsh if there is any pronounced servo effect in the brake shoes themselves, but on account of the uniformity and durability alone, if not already tried, this material would most certainly seem worth serious trial.

Best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
