604. 13th. December 1938. BY.4/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Messrs. Park Ward & Co. Ltd., 473 High Road, Willesden, LONDON. N.W.10. Dear Sirs, Demonstration Wraith Cars - Re: Over-oiling on No.1 Cylinder. Following my telephone conversation on Saturday last, making for your second Demonstration car, of which Mr. Roberts complained to me, to be sent to Derby, I took the opportunity of examining the head immediately it was removed from the engine, and satisfied myself that there was no trouble from the point of view of valves not seating correctly, there being no signs of inlet valve seat distortion to which I referred when discussing the matter with you on Friday. Whilst we have not had complaints previously of over-oiling on the Wraith chassis from any of our cars on demonstration work or in customers hands, an examination of the valve and plug from No.6 cylinder in the head taken from your demonstration car has led me to carry out an investigation on this particular head, for which purpose we have replaced the head completely with valves, rockers and all accessories, so that I can put the head, which has been removed from your car, on one of our test chassis, and make an extended trial of the head and find out just what has been the cause of the oiling up which undoubtedly occurred. From the foregoing you will appreciate that I am of the opinion that over-oiling has been taking place on both of your demonstration cars, and is quite a different trouble to the one I visualised when discussing the matter with you. I would like you to keep a careful watch on both your cars, and if any signs of oiling up recur on the new heads will you kindly ring me up immediately, as since viewing the | ||
