X4084 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Peregrine. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}1/E2.3.33 Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} PN.{Mr Northey} 10,000 Mile Test. The last report which I have seen indicates that the mileage is now approximately 6880. I do not know what you had in mind to do when the 10,000 miles have been reached, i.e. whether you had in mind to bring it home or run on for 15,000 miles. In view of the fact that the oil temperature still seems to be much too high as also the oil consumption, i.e. something like 412 miles to the gallon, it seems to me that we ought to bring the car back and work on these points, and carburation which is also very unsatisfactory from a petrol consumption point of view, before we spend further time and money running the car. You will remember that after I drove the car with PN{Mr Northey} from Grantham and found the oil temperature very high, I expressed the view that it seemed almost useless sending it to France, but you pointed out that there were a number of other items you were anxious to test hence the running which it has been doing during the last few weeks.
