Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Rowbotham,
Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Sir,

Some weeks ago I wrote to your firm, to the General Manager, stating my technical and practical qualifications in mechanical engineering. I mentioned then that I was a candidate for the M.Sc. degree of London University, and I have since been awarded this degree, together with the D.I.C.,- the diploma of the Imperial College. This latter is the highest degree awarded by the City and Guilds College, London, where I graduated, for research and higher study in mechanical engineering.

Last week I learned from the College authorities that a vacancy had occured in your Experimental Department some weeks ago, and that you invited candidates from the College. As you will see from by previous letter, my technical training has been of a high standard, I have now completed 8 months apprenticeship at Metropolitan-Vickers, and in addition have had many years of close acquaintanceship with automobile engineering. Therefore, Sir, I shall consider myself greatly indebted to you if you will consider my qualifications in the event of a further suitable vacancy occuring, and trust I may have the pleasure of an interview at some future date.

My college Professor, Dr. C. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} Lander, C.B.E., would no doubt be pleased to supply you with any references you may require.

I remain, Yours truly,

Alex. T. Brook.
