Accident to Butler
BJ2/E16.4.28.

TO: B.J. D17/DL19.4.28

(1) The Board at the meeting on April 11th approved the payment of £1000 less expenses incurred by the Company.

(2) It has been brought to my notice that when arranging for these men to go on their hazardous risks it was very definitely agreed by Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} that the families of anyone who is killed will receive a clear £1000 and insurances were taken out to that effect.

(3) The costs incurred in an accident such as this and the cost of bringing the body home were never considered.

(4) From a psychological point of view, especially in view of the fact that we shall have continually to send out these young men, Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} and I recommend:-

(a) that the Board should authorise the payment of a clear £1,000 to Butler's legal representatives under the guidance of the Solicitor;

(b) that the Company should bear the expense of bringing the body home, the Nursing Home, Doctor's fees and nursing and other incidental expenses amounting to £93. 4. 3.

(c) that in future the Insurance should be £1000 plus another £200 to recompense the Company in case of a recurrence.

(5) I have no doubt you will kindly put this matter before the Board to-morrow and let me have your instructions.

D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary}
