1015 FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} Axle general file. To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c.c. to Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/HH. Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}7/JH.23.2.40. re Welded on Spring Seats. FJH{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} As requested by Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} we have produced a scheme for welded-on spring seats for the semi floating axle and for both 50 and 56" rear springs. We have made a close examination of current American and English practice and find great uniformity in design. We have used the best example we can find and send you herewith two prints of our scheme PL.128. We would point out that it is universal practice not to locate the spring fixing bolts in the welded-on bracket and also not to provide any bearing for the U bolts on the axle tube.
