W/S. {Derby Works / Sales} c. D {John DeLooze - Company Secretary} /En. c. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} XH116 BY {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} /Cgh {W Clough} 3/G.11.1.28. re 20 HP. CHASSIS FOR MR. GEOFFREY SMITH. With reference to C16/C10.1.28. we have discussed the question of fitting wheels with 19" rims with the Experimental Department, and they confirm that with such wheels the ground clearance will be totally inadequate, and damage will be done to such parts as the petrol tank, unless the chassis is used on roads such as the main roads which obtain in this country. In addition to this special mud wings would have to be fitted. We certainly consider that the smaller wheels should not be fitted, and hope you will be able to arrange with Mr. Geoffrey Smith accordingly, especially as we notice that he intends to tour on the Continent.
