x560 To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}E. re GLG-5. Sgll/E16.12.35 Referring to the above which is fitted with the 25/30 engine, I had occasion to give the car a longish run of about 220 miles on Saturday last when the road conditions were good, i.e. dry. I was very delighted with the car in every way. The difference in the performance is of course outstanding. Where previously it was difficult without a long stretch of clear road to obtain a speed of 70 miles an hour, one finds that now the car is up to 60 /70 very quickly and the difference in the acceleration at the lower speeds is very marked. What is also very pleasing is that the engine is quiet throughout its range and free from flat spots. The maximum speed is just about the same as before, but the maximum is of course more easily reached. I did not expect a higher maximum. The petrol consumption on this run - the greater part of which was driven at fairly high speed - was about 13 miles to the gallon, which I presume is as good as we can expect and is no worse than with the standard size engine and present standard carburetter. On the list which you marked up for me when at Derby the other day it would appear that I have not got the SpectreCodename for Phantom III type steering which is on 21-G-IV and I really forget whether I have got standard 20/25 steering or something special but in any case it seemed to me on Saturday to be quite good.
