| Mr Wormald. 6/12/11 Mr Wormald submitted to the Committee a report concerning Captain Bushe's car 1698. The trouble with this chassis had been that the old type on rotor had burned badly at the contact and that a valve spring had broken after 350 miles This spring had been replaced, with the result that the second spring again broke after 700 miles. The Committee discussed this matter at some length, and agreed that the rotor difficulty had probably been caused by the inacurate setting. Mr Platford reported that he had discovered a small number of cars on test having a slight inaccuracy in the rotor setting and that this inccuracy caused a considerable amount of sparking at the rotor contact. Mr Wormald reported that the old type of rotor had been replaced by the new platinum contact type to the owners satisfaction. Mr Platford recommended that we should also fit the new type of wire separaters with this contact, as the preignition was otherwise increased with this form of rotor. With reference to the valve spring failures, the Committee have been aware that for some time that the fitting of the new type of camshaft increases the risk of breakage of the valve springs, and although the calculated stress is by no means excessive, yet they have considered | ||
