X4351 R.{Sir Henry Royce} H12/EA10.9.27. Laboratory. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED SEP 12 1927 to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Re Air Float for 40HP. and 20HP. carburettors. Your Ref. R5/M7.9.27. With reference to (2) of your above note :- We do not think this would be the quickest and best method of overcoming the trouble since the part is made from sheet metal. We have plated an air valve with nickel, and this is being tried by the Exptl.Dept.. If this is found to be promising, further work could be done in this direction, or we could try plating with a different metal, such as Zinc, (Zinc is considered a very good coat for aluminium). The advantage of this method is that it would not seriously hinder production. It may be noted that the plating did not appear to spoil the polish or fitting, but if a very thick coating is eventually considered desirable, some allowance could be made for this. Hl. He | ||
