(14) We have had no squeaks from the road springs. The springing of the front of the car was considered to be good for Continental roads at high and low speeds. The springs taken apart and examined for lubrication were found to be generally good. The following is the lubrication of the O.S. spring. The 10 leaves from the front and had been well lubricated. The colour of the oil deepened to a rusty colour on the bottom 4 leaves. The lubrication extended to the centre. The rear end of the spring leaves were less lubricated. The two top leaves had two dry patches half way from the tip towards the centre of the leaves. No. 3, 4, 5 leaves were dry approx. 4" from the centre in each case. All the tips of the leaves were well lubricated. The N.S. spring, all the leaves were well lubricated. The spring shackle pins were in a very good condition and had been amply lubricated. REAR ROAD SPRINGS to LOP F.57235. Type 900 lbs. Loaded Camber ½ neg. Loaded Length 36" Initial Camber 4.375. Material E/H.M. The rear springing of the car was too lively for the high continental speeds and unsteady at low speeds, considerable more damping is required. When riding in the rear, one was being continually thrown clear of the seat. He had no squeaks develop throughout the mileage. The springs taken apart and examined for lubrication were as follows. O.S. The front end (solid eye) the first 4 leaves were amply lubricated down to the centre. The rear ends were well lubricated but of a rusty swathy colour. The 5th leaf was less lubricated both ends. The 6th leaf was lubricated at the tip but very little further along. The 7, 8, 9 & 10 leaves were lubricated at the tips only, the rest of the leaf being dry. N.S. The first two leaves were amply lubricated with clear oil. The 3rd, 4th, and 5th were amply lubricated but were of a rusty colour. The 6th was lightly lubricated. The 7, 8, 9, 10 were dry and rusty at the tips with slight moisture of oil towards the centre. The rear ends (rolled eye) were not so amply lubricated as was the front end. The shackle pins were in a very good condition and were amply lubricated. The lubrication of the road springs shows that with the rolled eye, we still lose a certain amount of oil due chiefly to the non-protection of the gaiters. PEDAL STARTER MOTOR GEAR to LOP F.54277. With the fitting of the spot light foot switch there is a great danger of the starter switch being operated whilst the | ||
