25/30 HP. CHASSIS - MARLES STEERING.

As a result of a visit made by Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} to the Adamant Engineering Co.'s Works they have at last agreed to permit the follower roller for the 25/30 steering gear (Piece No. F.61281/2) to be produced entirely at Messrs. Ransome & Marles' Works.

The arrangement is that the Adamant Engineering Co. will supply the bar material to Messrs. Ransome & Marles. We have already asked the Adamant Engineering Co. in a letter of which you have a copy, for full particulars of the material both in regard to composition, carburising and heat treatment, and we will arrange when this information comes to hand to pass the same on to Messrs. Ransome & Marles, it being clearly understood that the material must be precisely the same as that the follower rollers have been made from up to the moment, and to ensure this the Adamant Co. are to arrange for the supply of the material.

It will be approximately a month before Ransome & Marles will be in the position to take over the entire supply of rollers, but in the meantime we have already informed the Adamant Co. the latter will have to keep our requirements filled, it being understood that they will not produce an excess of rollers which would have to be scrapped after Messrs. Ransome & Marles take over the manufacture of the part in question.

There will naturally be an increased cost on this roller, as Messrs. Ransome & Marles's methods are more accurately controlled, with better inspection arrangements, and there is little doubt, therefore, that the price will have to go up. This, however, is a small matter compared with obtaining rollers which are accurate and dependable.
