To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}7/JH.22.10.36. 25/30 HP. Steering Rollers. We received a telephone message from Mr. Hickling of Messrs. Ransome & Marles Ltd on 21.10.36. during which he asked that on the inner races to F.61284 we should :- (1) Leave an extra 0.001 - 0.002 on the face which abuts against the distance piece between the races. (2) Tighten the limit on the bore to 0.440 + 0.0005 - 0.0000 (3) Make sure that the end faces are square with the bore. They require these as they intend to locate from the bore mentioned above and from the outer face, and to lap the inner face after grinding the track. The laboratory have carried out some tests on a roller supplied to us by Messrs. The Adamant Co. to determine the effect of their heat treatment on the hardness of the case. The results were as follows :- Hardness tests with 30 Kg. and V.P.N. Roller as received from The Adamant Co. At one end (a) 692/702/702/702. At opposite end (b)769/758/758/761. After quenching in oil from 880°C - Requench 780°C. End (a) 656 End (b) 610 | ||
