X5650 N-W. EFC. from Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} Br2/GS.2.7.29. re 20 h.p. Starter Motors. -------------------------- With reference to your memo EFC3/AD.29.6.29, together with the copy of PT's memo, we would say that in all our experience of 20 h.p. Chassis, we have only been able to definitely establish two or three times that damage has been caused to flywheel starter rings by the pedals being depressed when the engine is running. Our view is that this damage is caused by something going wrong with the Bendix drive. This opinion is substantiated by the fact that we get very few cases of damaged starter rings on the more modern cars. We do not think the matter requires any serious consideration as suggested.
