There was a slight servo gear rattle on the over-run. We have not had any signs of the servo sticking. We reported at 6,000 miles the condition of one of the fabrics. This had not frayed out any more at the finish of the mileage and in no way did it prevent the functioning of the servo. We have however taken the matter up to obtain an improvement if possible. The condition of the servo was very good when dismantled and ample lubrication was noted on all the working parts. The servo has been free from clanking when released, the damper fitted with this object has functioned satisfactory.

PROPELLER SHAFT to LOP G.53436 MECHANICS JOINTS N.S. 2589.

The condition of the mechanics joints when taken apart and examined were in a very good condition, no appreciable wear could be detected. The leather packing joints were still in a good condition. No oil has been added throughout the mileage and joints were full when dismantled. The increased size of the propeller shaft eliminated the vibrations at high speeds. We cannot observe any depreciation of the shaft. The sliding joint was in good condition.

REAR AXLE to LOP G.53920. 9 X 41. RATIO.

New parts as listed on the above LOP. for withdrawal of Pinion and Housing.

(1) N.S.2917. 850 Offset Hypoid Gears.
(2) N.S.3142. G.L.429 Centralised Lubrication.

The axle became noisy as previously reported after the first 1,000 miles. It has been dismantled and investigations have revealed that the failure was due to the weakness of the housing of the pinion thrust race. The load was not being taken uniformly on the thrust races. Modifications have been made which it is hoped will cure the trouble. There has been a slight oil leak along the driving shaft on the O.S. it is proposed to fit a vent in the axle case to cure this leak, other known modifications having been incorporated. The condition of the pinion and crownwheel teeth were considered to be good. The centralised lubrication scheme which failed twice during the mileage owing to the coiled tube breaking, is now satisfactory. We lessened the dia. of the coil as reported allowing it free movement. It does not show under these conditions any failure. It is not necessary to reduce the dia. by .500 as we reported .250 is quite sufficient to allow for the unwinding of the coil. This is to be incorporated in the design.

REAR BRAKES to LOP G.53594. G.L.374.
