To R.{Sir Henry Royce} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson} X599Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}2/MJ.26.5.30. 16-G4. SHOCK ABSORBERS. 5960 X.5770 X.5410 X.5520 With reference to your note E.1/M.23.5.30. The loads on the shock absorbers of 16-G4 are - Front 45/65, Rear 55/65. Unfortunately, on this type of damper it is not possible to increase the low pressure or upward load without completely dismantling the shock absorber. The high pressure or downward load is most easily increased by putting a 2 B.A. washer above the valve spring. This should increase the load by about 20 lbs. We do not feel that altering the shock absorber load alone will make the springing of this car satisfactory, and are hoping to have it back at Derby as soon as we have finished with 18-EX, when we will try and improve the riding qualities.
