RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Cricklewood. May 11th. 1937. PHANTOM III. CLUTCH. Upon examining clutch plates taken down for jaggers, it is surprising to note the condition of the bedding of the fabrics. The pressure plate side there was only approximately one inch on the inner circle bedding. The outer part of the fabric does not appear to bed at all. On the flywheel side the inner portion of the fabric was bedding. Generally from the examination of these plates the pressure plate and the flywheel faces do not appear to be in alignment, with the result that a full bedding of the clutch surface does not take place. Pressure Plates Either these plates are distorting quickly or the machining is faulty in the first place. The surface is dished inwards, and generally three high spots where the metal is blued.
