FRONT ROAD SPRINGS. X4429 X8460

We have completed a test on four Silico Manganese front springs and two in Chrome Vanadium.

Their resepctive lives were :-

4 Silico Manganese average life = 26 hrs. 6 mins.
2 Chrome Vanadium " " = 19 hrs. 47 mins.

The average life of the standard spring on the bump is about 19 hrs. but this is a low value as a number of the springs included in this average were built up of remnants that had been run previously.

The mean life of the American springs previously tested and reported upon was 39 1/2 hrs.

The new RR. clip has been fitted to the last 6 springs and we have not had a failure as yet. We therefore recommend that Silico manganese springs with the new type of clip are adopted for production.

Until we have the front axle control, we do not recommend we use the increased flexibility on the front springs similar to Springfield.
