2. On the present tests the C pattern is 5% superior to the other patterns which are equal. It should be noted that we do not consider differences of less than 5% to have any practical significance. One interesting point about the results is the very poor stopping distances obtained and a typical figure (obtained a few days ago on the C pattern covers) has been included for comparison. The poor coefficients and consequent long stops are due to locking rears only. with high decelerations, brakes sufficiently powerful to lock the fronts make good use of the "transferred" weight on the fronts which, of course, reduces the braking force available at the rear wheels. We enclose for the attention of Mr.Martindale of Rolls Royce, tracings of the charts taken when his apparatus was being tried out for comparison with his own records. We should be interested to learn of the results of the comparison. Further a typical chart obtained in the present tests and one normally obtained with 4 wheels locked are included for their interest. V.P.G. | ||
