Installing the receiver.

Owing to the variety of designs of receivers on the market no hard & fast rules may be laid down for their installation.

A few years ago the general trend was to manufacture the receiver in two separate units this design has now practically died out & most of today's receivers consist of the one complete unit, their methods of mounting vary but in general it may be stated that one hole fixing is now becoming more or less universal.

This method of mounting has one disadvantage namely that it imposes a severe strain on the metal dash board & it is therefore advisable when using this type of mounting to fix a large metal plate behind the receiver on the engine side of the dash & to bring the fixing bolt through it this will quite appreciably relieve the strain.

Before the receiver is fixed into position make sure that all the metal work which it comes into contact with is thoroughly clean of paint or insulating material this will ensure a good earth connection & also help to reduce the degree of suppression required.

The control head is mounted on the instrument panel in a position so that the control cables have their shortest run to the receiver. It is most important to avoid sharp bends in these cables, try if possible to maintain a sweeping bend.

In conclusion always remember that the set must be rigid, well earthed to the metal dash & the aerial lead as short as possible.
