X.4284. DELCO-REMY DISTRIBUTOR.

This unit has now completed a 10,000 mile bench test in conjunction with the nearly closed iron circuit Delco coil supplied with it. During the test it was observed that regular H.T. sparking could not be obtained on 6.5 mm. gaps, apparently owing to insufficient coil energy. This was partially proved by placing the hand round the coil when running, which action almost completely extinguished all the sparks on 6.5 mm. gaps.

The condition of the L.T. tungsten contact points was considered to be exceptionally good, the absence of the usual pip and cavity on the points being very noticeable. Also there was complete absence of the usual blue oxide associated with tungsten under these conditions.

The rotating brush of the distributor has not run very smoothly according to the rough state of the distributor track. This has been due apparently to the large amount of freedom of the steel brush in its holder. Otherwise the distributor functioned O.K. although it is rather noisier than our standard.
