-7- Spring Suspension LOP.GW.1613 Loss of oil through the breather caps was experienced. These require blanking off and a suitable oil filler to suit. When the car arrived at Chateauroux the buffer clearances were N.S. 1/8" O.S. 1" and the consequent list of the car considerable. The car rode too much on the front buffers and was unnecessarily soft in front. Oil leaks from the lower yoke bearings were experienced and reduced by fitting Z.S.2 bijur feeds at these points. Front Brakes LOP.GW.1612 Front Hubs LOP.GW.1588 GW.830 Aluminium Brake drums. Brakes lined with Ferodo ML. The O.S. front brake was thoroughly satisfactory in every way and withstood some very severe testing. The adjustment used up showed that it was doing its calculated share of the work relative to the rear brakes. The N.S. front brake was, for some reason not satis-factorily explained, doing approximately twice as much work as was intended and the brake drum failed under severe testing due to the liner becoming displaced. Squeaks were a bad feature, indicating that a higher lead content in the liners is required. The serrated ring nuts in the front hubs require a special spanner as they have nine serrations against six on the Bentley, but otherwise appear the same. Cross Steering Tubes LOP.GW.1565 No trouble was experienced and high loading on the joints was not required as on Phantom III. as no wheel wobbles occurred. Rear Axle LOP.GW.1475 Continual small oil leaks occured from the breather hole on the centre casing. Slight leaks occurred from the flanges. The axle gave no trouble. A very slight uneven hum was audible on the over-run at 40 M.P.H. continued | ||
