-o- Steering col. continued No failures occurred in the steering, but the crankcase fouled the 1/2" nut on the inner end of the rocker shaft which holds the Bijur pipe. This is receiving attention Side Steering Tube AR.Sch.338/9 Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}339 Mod. to Rear Joint The rear joint was free from knocks and the general handling of the car indicates that the movement and load were correct. Floorboards and Fittings LOP.Fw.1195 It was necessary at the start to increase the height of the domes in the central aluminium board to give sufficient clearance for the gearbox. The wooden boards were satisfactory. Rear Shock Dampers and roll rod LOP.Fw.1085 The dampers were free from knocks but there were slight leaks from the glands. The roll rod was effective in action, and the poundage appeared well chosen. The connecting links were free from knocks. Governor Control for Dampers LOP.Fw.747 The maximum pressure obtainable of 18-20 lbs/sq.in. was insufficient for rough roads. The correct poundage is 25 lbs/sq.in. and the discrepancy was due to smaller governor weights being fitted. Loss of pressure was also experienced due to dirt and aluminium turnings in the valves. Petrol Tank LOP.Fw.1017 The tank showed no weaknesses. The internal stand pipe was blocked with solder which proved extremely difficult to extricate, and caused considerable trouble and conflicting evidence on petrol supply failures. continued | ||
