Messrs. Peto & Radford, 50, Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1. 15th October, 1929. -2- the brass locking washer which locks direct on to the lead post, should be more heavily lead coated (say .010" thick) or made entirely of lead, or lead and antimony. The corrosion seems to start at this point. There appears to be sufficient spare thread to allow of these washers being made much thicker than now. A further improvement in the design of the cell cover may be effected to help in the prevention of corrosion. My suggestion is this. The top of the vent hole should be brought down to a lower level by about 1/8". I think there is sufficient thread to allow of this. The top of the post locating holes should be kept at the same height. This, in my opinion, will prevent acid getting on the terminals to such a great extent, as now, being all on the same level, it has every opportunity of doing. Sketch of suggested improvement. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
