RG.{Mr Rowledge} ) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) C. to BJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} EFC. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} FL. ORIGINAL R5/M28.4.28. MAGNETO DRIVE. X4017 It is understood that we have to go on with the solid drive and the stream lubricated worm gear, but at the first possible moment we shall make a new wheelcase which will permit of a Sims rubber coupling, and very possibly an oil bath for the worm. We must assume that the present magneto drive will not be entirely satisfactory even with a lubricating oil to the smaller serrations (which we are arranging), because in the event of the engine firing irregularly there is a knock in these couplings which can only avoid being destructive by flexibility in the coupling - i.e. equal to a piece of rubber on the anvil. We ought to pray to Mr. Rowledge, Mr. Bailey, and Mr. Wormald, to get us this modification at the first possible moment, because we may have to change all we are making. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
