X.7230 E1/M28.1.29. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 'SS{S. Smith}' EXHAUST MANIFOLD. From R's recent memos, you will see that he does not think cast iron suitable. We believe he means this as applied to the existing design of manifold which is of the flexiole type. R.{Sir Henry Royce} will subsequently have received a print of the proposed design in which expansion is provided for by sliding. Regarding memo, R1/M16.1.29., this calls for a steel pipe of larger dia. and thickness, which, unless we use pipes surged down at the ends to fit existing flanges, or butt welding, will call for modifications to cyl. head stud centres. We want to use 2.25 pipe .104 thick. If you will get some tube of this size on order we will send a drg. early this week for the shape of manifold. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
