O 11/10 EXPERIMENTAL DEPARTMENT. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/NRC.{N. R. Chandler}10/JH. 11th August, 1938. Borg & Beck Co.Ltd., Tachbrook Road, LEAMINGTON. 10" Long C.F. CLUTCH. Dear Sirs, We thank you for your letter of Aug. 3rd. and for your 'phone message of yesterday, from which it would appear that dies for the cover might cost £600 to 700. This would of necessity add considerably to the cost per clutch on quantities of 1,000 or so, and in view of the uncertainty at the moment as to whether or not we will standardise this type, would you please let us have a quotation on the basis of lots of 200 with a total of say 500 within a year, you obtaining the cover from America. With regard to the comparatively rough machine finish of the face of the long pressure plate, we have not observed any lack of smoothness in engagement, in fact, our experience so far indicates very smooth engagement, but we wonder if the rate of wear of the facing is likely to be increased? so far we have not run sufficient mileage to form an opinion on this point. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
