1180. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/AFM{Anthony F. Martindale}2/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 16th February, 1938. Messrs. Ferodo Limited, CHAPEL-en-le-FRITH. (For the Attention of W.E. Shilton, Esq.) Dear Sirs, Brake Testing Rig. We have already despatched to you a Bentley rear axle, and to-day are arranging to send you two brake drums, a hub cap and an arbor. The arbor can be held in a lathe, the drums spun on their races and trued up with a light skim from a grinding machine fixed to the saddle of the lathe (we have seen you do this before). The drums do not for long retain their concentricity, we even think that in transit they may become slightly eccentric. We would be much obliged if you would true up the drums when you receive them, and return the arbor. Heating for long periods usually renders the drum eccentric. We suggest that you take all your measurements on the stiffer type drum (latest practice) and use the other for bedding in purposes. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
