An examination has been conducted on the above chassis, which was recently received in the Shop following an endurance test in France. It will be recalled that testing was discontinued at approximately 7,100 miles, due to engine valve failure. The following is a statement of the general condition of the units which were stripped for examination. Rear Axle 9 x 41 Ratio. This unit was assembled to LOP.GW.1475, incorporating the following :- Rear Brake modification in accordance with N.S.5044. 25/30 H.P. Centre Casing, Wraith axle shafts with splines in hub to N.S.5068. Dipstick to N.S.5090. Modifications to Rear Hubs to accord with N.S.5115. Aluminium jack brackets to N.S.4995. Oil retainer with increased area wearing surface produced in S/ZN to Ex.27870 (this modification has now been standardized for all Production chassis). In general condition this assembly is satisfactory; several points, however, require attention, these being given below. It was noted that oil had been exuded from the Centre Casing GW.1386 via the breather. The breather and dipstick continued. | ||
