TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} R10/M1.9.25. Copy to - RG.{Mr Rowledge} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL re. INSERTED VALVE SEATS. X3616 I learnt from Capt. Forsyth that the casting of these valve seats in position had not proved to be the best practice, and I believe he said the seats had been corked in, or expanded in, or burnished in - something to this effect. I shall be glad if RG.{Mr Rowledge} will ascertain the practice of how these seats should be fitted, and the best material, as we believe there have been many different patterns tried in connection with air cooled engines, and at Beardmore's and Armstrong's.
