Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} c. G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} W. H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} PARIS TRIAL'S CAR - BENTLEY. We returned from Paris yesterday. We have had a certain amount of difficulty in obtaining the required summer oil temperature of 120°c on Sr's Bentley, but have managed to obtain 117°c after a fast run. We have agreed with Sr. that he should run the car and maintain that temperature as often as possible, using straight roads such as we have round Chateauroux. We have already put as much as 2" of asbestos on the sump and have not left any parts exposed below the undersheets. The addition of more asbestos will bring the engine ground clearance very low, and we do not think would give any better result. The remaining alternative is to start shrouding above the undersheets, which would interfere with the oil level indicator, dynamo, controls, etc. We think that if the engine revs are kept between 3500-4000 over quite reasonable periods, there will be not much difficulty in maintaining summer conditions, with the present arrangement.
