X3633 HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [REDACTED] EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}4/H18.7.24. re.Spare Wheel Carrier. 40/50 Car. We are at present in communication with Sales Dept. in regard to a suitable Spare Wheel Carrier for the 40/50 car, we having condemned certain types which have been used on customers' cars, and which we consider have caused trouble. Sales Dept. are anxious that we should establish some design on scientific lines. Sp.{Mr Spinney} points out that Messrs. Barkers have designed and fitted to one or two cars a spare wheel carrier which he considers excellent, consisting of a tripod arrangement, having two legs on the chassis and one leg on the aluminium dash board, being entirely separate from the body. The tripod carries an aluminium dummy hub (hollow casting) and the wheel is carried on this dummy hub entirely free from the step board. We understand that you are now experimenting with a spare wheel carrier, W.W. design, which so far has not been very satisfactory. We shall be glad to have some information in regard to this matter so that as soon as possible we can supply same to Sales Dept. as our recommended scheme for spare wheel carrier for the 40/50 chassis.
