Y3646 To ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. FC2/T7.10.27. RE RECTIFYING VALVE. Herewith we hand to you our G.E.C. rectifying valve type U3, which was obtained from the G.E.C. Company in December last. We should be pleased if you would have this returned to them, asking them if they would be prepared to replace this valve, on some favourable terms. The filament voltage with which the valve has been operated has not exceeded their rated value of 5.5. We have, however, used the valve for rectifying H.T. current provided by a trembler coil, and it is probable that the back pressure to which it has been subjected has exceeded their rated maximum of 3000 volts. By static attraction the filament has moved over and ultimately made a L.T. contact to the plate. A slight vibration has, however, released this contact and when they receive the valve, it will probably be found that there is no connection between the plate and the filament on L.T. test. Filament lights normally. The position is therefore that we agree that we have probably overloaded this valve in respect of the back pressure, though we have not overloaded it in respect of the filament, and that we are asking the G.E.C. if they are prepared to do anything for us in the circumstances. As we are continually having apparatus to test with our H.T. rectifying unit, this is rather an urgent matter. EFC. | ||
