X 4054 EFC/T11.6.21. X 4054 PROGRESS OF FLEXIBLE CONDENSER EARTHING CONNECTION. April 16/20. We issued a report EFC1/T16.4.20 and diagram, as a result of complaints of faulty running by the Test Dept. and in the Expl. Dept., addressed to all concerned, thoroughly explaining the necessity of such a connection. May 20/20. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} informed us that during his last visit to Mr. Royce, Mr. Royce agreed with our contention, and instructed that experimental cars should be run with this connection. May 21/20. It was put up by us to the Design Dept. at Derby to put this job through. During the interval, further complaints were received from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} and the matter was urged with the Design Dept. from time to time. Sept.2/20. N. Scheme 555 went to R from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} * 4/20. Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} received approval from R.{Sir Henry Royce} with slight modifications. * 10/20. Job instructed from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} * 27/20 & Oct.29th. Instructions issued by By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} to Expl. Shop. During the interval the Expl. Shop was urged to push on with this job, and particularly on Jan. 1st. 1921. Expl. Shop handed to us a sample condenser and case, suggesting, however, a modification which we agreed would be an improvement. In the meanwhile Mr. Hives had been running experimentally an improvised connection on one of the cars and had reported verbally that he had not appreciated any advantage therefrom. Jan.21/21. Job put back to D.O. for re-design embodying modification proposed by Expl. Dept. Feb. 4/21. Job re-instructed from Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Contd. | ||
