X4117 To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. EFC6/T18.6.24. X. 2512 - 40/50 MICA CONDENSER NO. 2818. EX 30-TE. RUSSELL. Reference your BY10/H17.6.24, we proceeded to examine this condenser, first of all putting it through our production test. The condenser broke down on the test voltage which it is specified shall be switched on at 250 and raised to 400. The condenser broke down when the voltage (on being raised) was in the neighbourhood of 300. This would not probably be anything to do with the points burning, but as this condenser is one of the old type with earthing connection, which we never liked, and demonstrated to be unsatisfactory, we consider that that is the cause of the trouble, and that no further trouble will be experienced now that a condenser of increased capacity and flexible earthing connection has been fitted. In the circumstances, of course, we cannot carry out a further test unless you think it desirable that the condenser shall be dismantled and the fault observed repaired, and the condenser passed to us again. We have not at the moment the 40/50 rig in running order and this will take a bit of fixing up, but can be done if thought necessary. The condenser and platinum points in question are returned herewith. EFC. | ||
