DRAFT COPY OF MEMO TO BE SENT TO DEPOTS. re REQUIREMENTS OF SPARES AT DEPOTS. With reference to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}S/R.10.5.37., and the discussion of Service complaints, we are endeavouring to formulate a scheme to enable Depots to give better service all round to customers and to avoid unnecessary delays in the ordering and manufacturing of parts required for servicing cars. In the first place, the procedure as carried out at Derby is as follows :- Once a stock has been inaugurated and a record established as to the rate of demand, we are enabled to re-order such material which is likely to continue in constant demand, in sufficient quantities to cover requirements over a fixed period. We should like you to consider the facts very carefully and the circumstances concerning your own Depots, so that the whole question can be discussed fully at the Conference. Our opinion, at present, is that Depots could be very much more helpful if they would anticipate requirements better than in the past, so that we may form a better estimate as to the total volume of the material to be manufactured and to enable the works to arrange accordingly. Whilst we particularly wish Depots to be in a position to give better service, it is realised that the foregoing procedure may increase the amount of stock held by all concerned unless great discretion is exercised so as to avoid the possibility of stocks growing out of all proportion to your requirements. | ||
