20/25 CHASSIS MATERIAL.

On the next batch of 20/25 cars we should like to see the following improvements :-
(1) Air silencer to carburetter.
(2) Silent second speed.
(3) New type shock absorbers.
(4) Luvax scheme of central lubrication.
(5) Front axle control.

(1) Air Silencer to Carburetter.

The air silencer to the carburetter means a slightly modified carburetter in order to get a single air inlet to fit the silencer to. The carburetter we want to use is the one which is standard on the tank engines. The principle and all the working parts of the carburetter are the same as the present standard. We have an experimental car running about with one of these carburetters fitted with an air silencer. We have not got at the moment an approved design for the air silencer. The fitting of this carburetter and silencer is a great improvement as regards reduction in noise. As it has already been agreed to fit the air silencer to the Phantom customer will expect it on the 20/25, also it will not be long before any car which does not have an air silencer on the carburetter will be considered out of date.

(2) Silent Second Speed.

R.{Sir Henry Royce} has now agreed to the silent second speed. The Peregrine has run in France 12,000 miles with a silent second. The advantage in this gear is very desirable. If we fit a silent second to the 20/25 as the same gearbox will be used on J.2 or J.3 the work which is done in connection with this will not be wasted. Only a few parts in the gearbox are altered therefore we think it would be worth while looking into to see whether it is possible to get this improvement fitted.

(3) New Type Shock Dampers.

The new type dampers have now run 12,000 miles on Peregrine. They are being fitted to 19-EX. This is going to France in about a weeks time and we consider we are in a position to order up the material for this type of shock absorber.
