Bailey - Chief Engineer} He.5/MJ.7.11.32. 'PEREGRINE' - GENERAL POSITION. Ha/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} crossed over to France with Per.11 on saturday. We do not look upon this car as the official 10,000 miles test car, but it has been sent away chiefly to get experience of this car with extensive running and we expect to replace it with a further improved Peregrine in three or four weeks time. We attach herewith specification of the car, which shows that it is pretty well up to date. Our chief problems on the car at the moment are - (1) Carburetter. So far we have had very little experience on the road with the semi expanding carburetter on this engine. We also want to develope an air silencer for the carburetter. This matter is in hand. (2) Brakes. We consider some modifications are necessary to the proportions of the brake levers on Peregrine. (3) Exhaust System. There is a certain amount of work to be done on this to obtain the necessary silence without back pressure. (4) We require better cooling for the oil. The general position of Peregrine is very satisfactory because the points which are outstanding are not difficult to get right. We expect to have the third car completed by the end of this week. No.1 needs bringing up to date and it is our intention to fit this with all the latest parts and to send this car to France to replace No.11. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} List attached. | ||
