| PEREGRINE. The first Peregrine car left for France on Sat., Nov.9th. It was a standard six light four door saloon with a spare wheel at the side. The weight of the complete car was approximately 28 cwt., the chassis weight 19+ cwt. The car was primarily intended to get some mileage experience on the major parts of the chassis and to provide data for the completion of the second, and final, 10,000 miles car. The specification of the chassis was as follows :- Engine Unit. (1) 8-1 C/R.{Sir Henry Royce} Non-turbulent head. (2) Pistons with slightly increased flexibility. (3) Camshaft with reduced toe. (4) Improved crankcase scheme for preventing oil building up in the tappet cover and providing oil seal for the distributor. (5) Oil pump reduced in size to be pro rata with J.III. (6) Crankshaft with 2.25" journals s/e weight scheme of balancing Units balance crankshaft. (7) Dry type crankshaft damper to Lec.3149, fan pulley on the inertia element. (8) Standard type of flywheel and clutch with rubber blocks of considerable flexibility in the driven member. (9) R.W. semi-expanding carburetter. (10) 13-1 starter ratio on the flywheel. | ||
