Contd. -5- EFC/TS.7.28. (gun.metal) No. 1 sample sent is the original shape proposed, which however has never been considered satisfactory by the Production Department. It will be understood that in all cases mica separators have been used between the commutator plates. A further report will be issued on the results of further tests. it is considered that if we can produce commutators which will consistently stand the present tests, with the extra loading of copper, they should be capable of standing whatever they are subjected to on a dynamo normally running on the car. With the sample segments, a piece of broken commutator, similar to those so far used for the commutators on dynamos, is sent. In further tests solder will be put on the commutators to give an indication as to whether we are reaching on the commutator itself a temperature at which the solder melts. EFC. | ||
