TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} Copy to - HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ORIGINAL SPARE WHEEL CARRIER FOR PRESENT PRODUCTION CARS x8260 x8600 It is very desirable to standardise a RR. spare wheel carrier for the present cars as soon as possible. As far as we can see the only one available is the double arm type because the single arm is not entirely satisfactory in its present position, and to alter its position would require a further 10,000 miles trial. We therefore suggest that as the double arm type has also the advantage of a suitable bolt for holding, we should proceed with that as soon as possible. The only 2 questions which seem to require dealing with are the bonnet catch, and the valances. With regard to the former we suggest that if the present bonnet catch is used, it should be moved slightly forward, the alternative being to use the 20HP. catch. Would BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} decide which of these 2 he would prefer to use. The method of putting on the valance is to thread it over the tubes with the plate removed. We believe that there will be no difficulty in this point, but in any case EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} will discuss the matter with the coachbuilders immediately, and any alteration required is likely to be slight. Would HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} kindly start a standardisation sheet. As this, though strictly a chassis part, is one in which Sales and the coachbuilding dept. have a good deal to say, it is suggested that the sheet should also be signed by the 2 people on the attached slip.
