X.4105. CUT OUT EX CHASSIS 54-NC.

The cut out has been examined and tested on the bench and apart from the contacts appears to have no fault; in fact in spite of the state of the contacts it was run for over five minutes with about 12 amperes passing without overheating the contacts. In other respects also the action is O.K. No adjustment has been made.

If the cause of the burning of the contacts does not lie outside the cut out, such as vibrating due to reversed dynamo or battery polarity, the only explanation seems to be that some foreign substance must have got in between the points thus setting up resistance and heating.
